so last weekend, my best friend of 25 years came up for a visit to the bay area. we've got one of those friendships where we don't have to be attached to the hip, or talk on the phone at least once a day (let alone at least once a week...), but no matter how far we are (532 miles) or how often (or little) we talk on the phone, when we do get together, it's like no time has been lost. anyway, we ended up hanging out at the house on friday night and staying up 'til 4am talking and watching movies.
the next day, we did the "girly" thing and got our hair done and nails did. later that evening, we ended up at Pier 23 in San Francisco to catch Native Elements playing... if i may add, catch a show if you ever get the chance to. the vibe of the bar was EXACTLY what i've needed...for a loooong time! the beautiful smell of herbalistic relaxation filled the air. since i rolled with a few of the girls, i made sure i had my sac-packed.
the music was on point, they sounded great...i caught another one of their shows a year or so ago up in vallejo, and they were jammin' there too (however, i didn't think the crowd at the sushi bar in vallejo vibed and appreciated the sounds the same way the crowd @ pier 23 did) it's funny cuz steph (my bf that came up from daygo for a visit) doesn't even listen to reggae and she enjoyed
the music. then again, i don't think there's really anyone who doesn't enjoy reggae, they just haven't experienced the true sounds and soul...
the music. then again, i don't think there's really anyone who doesn't enjoy reggae, they just haven't experienced the true sounds and soul...now it's been a long while since i've gone out on a friday or saturday night with the girls, or even out "PERIOD!" i will say that there's a bunch of "beasty ass foo's" out there that all sense of common courtesy or manners is thrown out the window, just to ensure they can buy themselves a shot of patron, or a gin and tonic for 4x the price. is it really worth pushing a chick more than half the size of your big ass to get a drink? don't you think you can stand to wait for a drink with that big ass beer belly of yours? *let me stop!* my point to this brief rant is this...
"PEOPLE, what separates us from wild animals is our sense of humanity. we have the knowledge and the power to rise above behaviors of killer instinct and animalistic survival, and i'm sorry, it's not instinct kicking in when you bully your way to the bar just to get a drink! but seriously though, here's a little something i have to say to those of out there that act like they ain't got no home training (excuse me for my use of improper grammar, however, i'm pretty ademant about this...) - "Whether you're out partying or in church, carry yourself in a manner that gives you the right to call yourself a human being with some sense...FOR REAL!" the world would be a better place if we could...
